Installation Guidelines
Before setting up your new holiday lighting, read through these guidelines thoroughly - they'll likely save you time and money.
Security measures
- Make sure you add the value of your displays to your property insurance
Electrical connections
- Take care with your electrical connections
- Use only outdoor, heavy duty cords.
- Only connect display together if the included instructions specifically dictate it.
- Never tape connectors together.
- Ensure the connections are fully seated.
Highly recommended
- Don't hammer your displays into the ground.
- If the ground is too hard, first make pilot holes.
- Do not move your display with the lights on -- this is especially true for C7 lights and rope lighting.
- If you have a staff installing these displays, make sure they are trained in proper use of guy wires and supports.
Reduce installation time
- Be sure to check to see if the lights are working before setting up the display.
- Organize your installation hardware with each item.
- You'll need a hex driver and a power drill to install the hinge bolts.
- To prevent overloads, keep the power consumption guide on hand for reference during installation.
Maintenance Guidelines
GFCIs and Moisture
- Rain trips GFCI quite easily, protect outlets from rain
- Wood blocks underneath displays prevent trips
- Avoid lightning prone mounts
- Check your guy wires after heavy winds or a storm
- GFCIs trip most often from thunderstorm moisture ' they prevent problems with the display, but need to be reset after tripping.
Take Down and Storage
Fix lights before storing
- Replace burned out bulbs or working bulbs will fail
- Store displays in their cartons or hang them
- Keep hardware, instructions and wire harnesses with each display
- Do not leave displays under exposed sun - they are designed for interior storage and 90 day use.
